DAVE MICHAEL UPDATE - 11 JANUARY 2005:

Once again, our thanks goes out to 1958's Bill Howard, for sharing his info on our fellow WC alumnus, Dave Michael. It sounds as though Dave is having a very tough time of it and there are no phone calls or visits at this time. It's also my understanding that his e-mail account capacity is maxed out. This means we must use postally-mailed cards for our get well wishes. Please do that. Let's keep Dave in our good thoughts and prayers. Also, let's not forget 1963's Douglas M. Mays, who is still battling lymphoma cancer and I've been told in the past week (by a family member who wishes to remain anonymous) that his situation may be more serious than originally thought. If anyone out there has differing or additional info, please let me know. We are all concerned about the welfare of our fellow WC alumni. By the way, as I often do, I looked up Doug in my 1963 Piratan. Once again, I was struck by the similarity of, "that Mays look." Doug, Wayne, and Kenny could have been triplets, as could Carl, Gary, and David. Yet all have similarities and are unmistakable as members of the Mays Clan. Let's get those cards and messages going for Doug, too, shall we? I'm have his address as: 1365 North Heincke Road, Miamisburg, Ohio 45342.

In the next week or ten days, I will have a new WeCaTon News Report compiled and I'll fill everyone in on all the messages which I have received since the last one. In the meantime, let's keep Doug and Dave at the forefront of our focus.)

This is a post-surgery update on Dave Michael's condition. As you may recall, he was in a hospital in mid-December for a simple surgical procedure on his throat but, during the recovering, he suffered numerous, more serious set backs including a heart attack, pneumonia, and infections.

Dave had open heart surgery last Friday, January 7th. The four-vessel bypass was a technical success in clearing the 90% blockage but there are other complications. As a consequence, Dave remains in critical condition.

The family wants everyone to know that they very much understand and appreciate the genuine concerns of friends but they ask that everyone please respect the privacy of Dave and his family during this difficult time of recuperation. It may be slow and incremental. His location of convalescence is intentionally not being released because the family urges there be no calls and no visits for an undetermined period of time.

Please continue to pray for Dave and his family. Keep them in your daily thoughts. Words of encouragement and get well cards are still very much welcomed and may be sent to his home:

The release of further information regarding Dave's health and progress will be occasional and at the expressed wishes of the family. Whenever there is news, it will be disclosed by e-mail.
